Frequently Asked Questions

We believe informed pet owners make the best partners in care. Here are answers to some common questions about our veterinary services.

We recommend annual wellness exams for most adult pets. However, for puppies, kittens, and senior pets (typically over 7 years of age), we advise more frequent check-ups—every 6 months. This is because pets age much faster than humans, and significant health changes can occur in a short time. Annual exams allow us to establish a health baseline, administer necessary vaccines, perform parasite screenings, and catch potential issues like dental disease, arthritis, or weight changes early, when they are most treatable and manageable.

First, stay calm and call us immediately. Our team can provide specific first-aid advice over the phone and prepare for your arrival. If the emergency occurs outside our regular hours, we have a list of trusted 24-hour emergency and critical care facilities we can direct you to. Common signs of an emergency include: difficulty breathing, collapse or loss of consciousness, seizures, severe bleeding, bloated or distended abdomen, inability to urinate or defecate, signs of extreme pain (whining, trembling, hiding), ingestion of known toxins (like chocolate, xylitol, or rodent poison), trauma (such as being hit by a car), or sudden paralysis. Always safely transport your pet in a carrier or on a stretcher to prevent further injury.

Dental disease is one of the most common medical conditions seen in adult dogs and cats. Beyond bad breath, untreated plaque and tartar lead to painful gingivitis, tooth root infections, and tooth loss. More critically, the bacteria from dental disease can enter the bloodstream and damage vital organs like the heart, kidneys, and liver. Professional veterinary dental cleanings under anesthesia are essential because they allow us to thoroughly clean below the gumline (where disease starts), take dental X-rays to assess the health of the tooth roots and jawbone, and perform any necessary extractions. We also provide guidance on at-home dental care, including brushing techniques, dental diets, and chews to help maintain oral health between professional cleanings.

We are committed to Fear-Free veterinary care. Our entire team is trained in low-stress handling techniques. We use calming pheromone diffusers in our clinic, provide quiet exam rooms away from the main lobby, and offer treats and praise liberally. We always work at your pet's pace. For pets with severe anxiety, we can discuss pre-visit medication options prescribed in advance to make the experience less stressful for everyone. Our goal is to build positive associations with veterinary care, ensuring your pet feels safe and secure during their visit, which leads to more accurate exams and a better overall experience for you and your furry friend.
