Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties

As a Maintenance Technician in Bristol BS11, your core function will be to perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and react swiftly to breakdowns to minimise downtime. You will be an integral part of the engineering team.

• Conducting Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM): Executing scheduled maintenance tasks on a variety of industrial machinery, HVAC systems, and facility equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and safety regulations.
• Reactive & Breakdown Maintenance: Diagnosing faults, troubleshooting issues, and performing effective repairs on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to restore functionality promptly.
• Compliance & Safety Assurance: Ensuring all work is carried out in strict compliance with Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), PUWER, and other relevant regulations. Completing risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) as required.
• Facility Upkeep & Fabric Maintenance: Performing general building maintenance tasks, which may include basic plumbing, carpentry, lighting repairs, and ensuring the site remains safe and operational.
• Record Keeping & Documentation: Accurately logging all maintenance activities, parts used, and time spent in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Reporting recurring issues and suggesting improvements.
• Stock & Inventory Management: Monitoring levels of critical spares and consumables, liaising with the supervisor to ensure essential parts are available to avoid prolonged equipment outages.
• Supporting Operational Teams: Working collaboratively with production, warehouse, and office staff to schedule maintenance windows that cause minimal disruption and provide technical advice where needed.

Essential Skills & Requirements

To be successful in this Maintenance Technician role within the Bristol area, you will need a combination of formal qualifications, practical experience, and the right attitude.

• Proven Experience: A minimum of 2+ years in a hands-on maintenance role within an industrial, manufacturing, or facilities environment. Experience with CNC machinery, conveyors, or packaging equipment is highly advantageous.
• Technical Qualifications: A recognised apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or time-served experience. 17th or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations is a strong plus for electrically biased roles.
• Strong Diagnostic Ability: Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills, with a logical approach to diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues using multimeters, pressure gauges, and other diagnostic tools.
• Safety-First Mindset: A thorough understanding and demonstrable commitment to safe working practices. Knowledge of LOLER, PAT testing, or working at height regulations is beneficial.
• Initiative & Reliability: The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage your own workload, and be a reliable, punctual member of the team. A full UK driving licence is preferred for potential multi-site work.
