Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties
As a CV/AV Technician, your day will be varied and technically demanding. You'll be the go-to expert for ensuring all visual and auditory communication is flawless.
- System Setup & Operation: Configure, test, and operate complex AV systems including video conferencing codecs (Zoom Rooms, Teams, Cisco), digital mixers, projection systems, LED walls, and presentation laptops for high-stakes corporate and client events.
- Fault Diagnosis & Technical Support: Provide first-line technical support to end-users, rapidly diagnosing and resolving issues with sound, vision, control systems, and network connectivity to minimise downtime during critical meetings.
- Preventative Maintenance & Rigging: Execute scheduled maintenance checks on AV equipment, manage basic cable rigging and de-rigging for events, and ensure all kit is stored safely and is inventory-ready.
- Client Liaison & Briefing: Work directly with clients and event organisers to understand their technical requirements, offer expert advice on best practices, and provide clear, confident briefings to non-technical users.
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate records of equipment faults, configurations, and asset movements. Ensure all work complies with health & safety regulations, particularly when working at height or with electrical systems.
Essential Skills & Requirements
To be successful in this CV / Audio-Visual Technician role, you'll need a blend of technical knowledge, practical aptitude, and excellent customer service skills.
Technical Competencies
- Proven experience with video conferencing platforms (MS Teams, Zoom, Cisco).
- Strong understanding of audio fundamentals: mixing, signal flow, gain structure.
- Ability to troubleshoot AV control systems (Crestron, Extron, AMX) is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with basic networking concepts for AV-over-IP systems.
Personal Attributes
- Excellent problem-solving skills under pressure.
- Outstanding communication and client-facing skills.
- A proactive, can-do attitude and the ability to work independently.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites in the G51 area.
Note: While formal qualifications (e.g., City & Guilds, BTEC) are advantageous, we value demonstrable hands-on experience equally. Candidates with transferable skills from roles such as an Electrician (understanding cabling and power) or a Machine Operator (following technical processes) are also encouraged to apply, as core technical aptitude is key.
