Assembly Line Worker Job Description
Phone Direct is partnering with a leading manufacturing and production client in the Belfast BT1 area to recruit a diligent and reliable Assembly Line Worker. This role is crucial to the client's operational output, focusing on the efficient assembly of consumer electronics components. It's an excellent opportunity for someone with a keen eye for detail and a strong work ethic to join a dynamic team with the potential for long-term employment.
As a specialist in connecting talent with opportunity, Phone Direct understands the local Belfast job market. We don't just fill vacancies; we build careers. Whether you're an experienced assembler or someone looking to start in the manufacturing sector, our dedicated consultants provide guidance and support throughout your placement. For other specialised roles, explore our opportunities for a Recruitment Consultant in Leeds or a Healthcare Assistant in Bolton.
Key Responsibilities & Daily Tasks
- Precision Assembly: Performing repetitive but precise assembly tasks on a fast-moving production line, following detailed technical diagrams and work instructions to assemble small electronic components and final products.
- Quality Control & Inspection: Conducting visual and functional checks on assembled units at various stages of the process to ensure they meet stringent quality standards, reporting any defects or inconsistencies immediately to the line supervisor.
- Machine Operation & Feeding: Safely operating and monitoring basic assembly machinery, such as pneumatic screwdrivers, soldering stations, or conveyor belt systems, ensuring a consistent flow of materials and finished goods.
- Material Handling & Logistics: Managing the supply of raw materials to your workstation, including unpacking, sorting, and preparing components. Maintaining a tidy and organised workspace to uphold health and safety protocols and optimise efficiency.
- Team Collaboration & Communication: Working cohesively with other line workers, technicians, and supervisors to meet daily production targets. Communicating effectively about line speed, material shortages, or process issues to ensure seamless operation.
- Packaging & Dispatch Preparation: Carefully packaging finished products according to specific guidelines, labelling them correctly, and preparing them for the dispatch stage, ensuring they are protected for transportation.
- Adherence to Safety Protocols: Strictly following all company health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies. This includes wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), understanding emergency procedures, and contributing to a culture of safety on the shop floor.
While full training will be provided on specific products and machinery, the ideal candidate will possess a foundational skill set and the right attitude. We value reliability and a proactive mindset as much as direct experience.
- Proven Experience: Previous experience in a factory, warehouse, or assembly environment is highly advantageous. Experience as a Painter and Decorator or similar trade, which requires manual dexterity and attention to finish, is also relevant.
- Manual Dexterity & Stamina: Excellent hand-eye coordination and the ability to perform repetitive tasks with consistency and quality over a full shift. The role involves standing for extended periods and light lifting.
- Team Player Attitude: A collaborative spirit is essential. You must be able to work effectively as part of a close-knit team, supporting colleagues and communicating clearly to maintain production flow.
- Reliability & Punctuality: The production line depends on every worker being present and on time. We require candidates with a strong sense of responsibility and a proven track record of reliability.
- Basic Numeracy & Literacy: Ability to understand work instructions, complete basic paperwork, and count components accurately is required.
- Right to Work in the UK: Must have valid documentation proving eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
